The Photo Dynamic Therapy in practice

The treatment takes place in one to two sessions even more among the importance and the type of injuries.
The session takes place twice:

• Preparation of injuries: by a soft curetting, often necessary for carcinomas baso-cellular or very thick actinic keratosis. The anesthesia is not necessary in general and even not recommended in order not to reduce the penetration of the photo sensitive cream.

• Application of the photosensitize product. Leave it on for a variable time (30 minutes for acne or rejuvenation, 3 hours for cancer and keratosis.)

For cancer and keratosis, protect the area with a dressing so that the day light does not act immediately.

Application of the laser light or LED on the pre prepared area becareful of wiping the photosensitize cream which is not completely absorbed by the skin. 
For acne or facial rejuvenation, we can leave the patient without tights on a dark room.
Not to foresee outside activities during the following two days, limit the outdoor activities and of course no solar exposure or sunbeds because the photochemical reaction can happen. We advise a solar protection UV index 50.

But in general, the patient will:
- feel a heat more or less supportable during all the blue or red light exposure but which can last 2 to 3 days.  
- During the session, a local anesthesia of the zone could be necessary. In the great majority of cases using ventilators and spray during the session is sufficient. Anesthetist creams have a very long action time to be usable.
- Present a simple hale or an intense redness among the indication. It could present a simple tan or an intense redness depending of the indication. It could be then a skin lift (the skin can weep and then to become wizened as « an old apple ») which can last one week.
- The patient’s social life should be restricted, so you have to be limited and in accordance with the doctor. The reaction to the treatment is modular and adaptable for PDT indications. It is easy to understand that in the case of a cancer, the photochemical action should be more intense and will product an intense reaction
